Zenith ZS-5000 Satellite Receiver

This receiver features C-Band and Ku-Band reception, on-screen menus, built-in videocipher decoder, IR remote, optional UHF remote and on-screen menus, up to 20 programmable favorite programs, the ability to parentally lock out up to 34 channels on various satellites and stereo audio from videocipher channels.

HOW TO PROGRAM A SATELLITE

1. Go to a satellite that is near the satellite to be programmed and has the same polarity.

2. Select a channel that is active on the satellite that is to be programmed and on the satellite that you are starting from.

3. On the front of the receiver: Slide the NORMAL switch to the right or into the satellite memory position. (Caution-there are a several switches in the same area.)

4. Tap EAST or WEST in the proper direction until a different picture or black screen appears.  *Possible problem- You are picking up the satellites with the opposite format, then press H/V on the remote one time and continue moving east or west until a picture or black screen appears.

5. Verify that the picture is correct. If it is, then go to step 6. Otherwise, continue moving east or west until the correct satellite is found.

6. Press INDEX to scroll through the pre-programmed satellites. If the correct name appears, then stop pressing INDEX and go to step 7. If the name is not in the list of satellites then, press INDEX, then press LETTER and then NUMBER until the correct satellite name is displayed.

7. Press and hold STORE until the display flashes. The satellite is now stored in memory.

8. If the letters “MF” appear in the display then the memory is full. Proceed with step 9 and then see the Erase a Satellite section to erase a satellite.

9. Slide the NORMAL switch back to the center position.

10. This completes the programming process.

 

HOW TO ERASE A SATELLITE

1. If necessary, press INDEX on the receiver to scroll through the satellite names to find a satellite that can be erased. It is not necessary to move to the satellite unless it needs to be checked to see if it used.

2. After finding a satellite to be erased, move the NORMAL switch to the right or into the satellite memory position.

3. Press INDEX repeatedly until the correct satellite name to be erased is displayed on the receiver if it is not already. You do not have to be on the satellite to erase it.

4. Press CANCEL. The satellite name will flash indicating that it is ready to be deleted.

5. If this is the correct satellite to be deleted, then press CANCEL again.

6. Move the NORMAL switch back to the center position.

 

PARENTAL SECURITY

The parental lock is controlled by the remote control and there is no password. The remote control needs to be secured or hidden if the parental locked out channels are not to be viewed. This means that if you do not have the remote and the parental lock is on then you cannot use the receiver to see the channels that are locked out.

  To view all the channels in the lockout list

1. Move the PAR SEC switch on the front of the receiver to the store position.

2. Press INDEX repeatedly to scroll through the channels in the lockout list.

3. Move the PAR SEC switch on the front of the receiver to the norm position when finished.

To turn on/off the parental lock

1. Press the PS ON to turn the lock on. When the lock is on the satellite dish cannot be moved. The channels that are in the lockout list will be black with no audio. The screen will display Par Sec On momentarily.

2. Press PS OFF to turn the lock off. All channels will be accessible.

The screen will display Par Sec On momentarily.

To add a channel to the lockout list (Up to 34 channels)

1. Press PS OFF.

2. Go to the satellite that has the channels to be locked out.

3. Move the PAR SEC switch on the front of the receiver to the store position.

4. Use channel up/down to select the correct channel to be locked out.

5. Press PS ON on the remote to store the channel. The channel number will flash and “PRGM” will be on the screen to indicate storage.

6. Repeat steps 4-5 for additional channels on this satellite. Repeat all steps for channels on other satellites.

7. Move the PAR SEC switch on the front of the receiver to the norm position.

 

To delete a channel from the lockout list

1. Move the PAR SEC switch on the front of the receiver to the store position

2. Press PS OFF.

3. Press INDEX button repeatedly until the channel to be removed is in the display

4. Quickly press PS OFF. The screen will display will read “NOT PRGM” to indicate that the channel has been removed from the list.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 for additional channels.

6. Move the PAR SEC switch back to the norm position.

 

HOW TO CHANGE SATELLITES

1. Press LETTER and then NUMBER and it will move to the satellite.

OR

1. Press LETTER or NUMBER and then immediately press EAST or WEST to move to the next satellite in the direction pressed.
